About to pull the trigger on fitech system!

Im leaning throttle body EFI myself. Ive actually had my eyes on it for a while now. But its a fairly new setup and i want to gather as much feedback as i could. I keep reading about the Fi tech self tune not calibrating correctly out of the box. Ive seen others on here with builds running FI tech. Hopefully they might care to chime in... those that have it operating correctly always say the motor runs stronger at lower RPMs.

I can add my 2 cents. I have the fi tech go street 400 non timing control on my 1979 f150 4x4. I am using their fuel command center (although i modified it , removing the float and needle and seat) after some growing pains i am fairly happy with it. I now have added a remote starter for the cold canadian winter!
best of luck with your install

I would also go and check out the Holley system. I have heard more than one bad story with FiTech performance as well as customer service.
I don't have experience with the Sniper, but I did have a Holley Commander multi-port system that I retrofitted on a Ford 400 in my Bronco that worked great.
I live at 7,000 ft and frequently take trips up to 10,000-11,000 feet. There is a big difference between a carb'd system and an EFI system.

Running a Holley Sniper with the Holley Dual-Sync Distributor for timing control. Very easy install and practically plug n play. Only difficult part of the install was retrofitting an in-tank pump.
Absolutely no issues so far other than needing a slight tweak to cold temp fuel enrichment which was about a 5 minute fix using their provided tuning software. You can find details near the end of my build thread.

True enough, but as an aside the North American P51D had a service ceiling of 42,000 feet, and could fly upside down, too. Carbs will work at altitude. Jus' Sayin'.

Never said that they wouldn't. Pick your spot where you do most of your driving and tune it for that - so I could tune for 7,000 because that is where I am most of the time. The problem is, when you take your trips where you are jumping up to 11,000 feet and you run like poo in comparison to your "normal".

I have a Fitech on my '79 f-150. I use the timing control feature with a MSD distributor. Runs great, only issue I have is with cold starts, It might take a couple tries to get it to start. Runs great once its running. Probably just a tuning thing. It isn't a big enough thing for me to bother with now, I'll get around to it someday.
I have another one on the 545 bb in my '79 bronco. I had some trouble getting that to run. A call to their phone tech line got it straightened out. The base calibrations are set up for a 350" motor, when you enter the motor size it changes fueling and stuff like that, but sometimes more changes are needed. Like with my 545 it needed the idle air valve to be opened quite a bit more to get it to start.
The Holley Sniper has a color screen, Fitech doesn't. Not that one is needed really.
