Cool Hello from Maryland's Eastern Shore

Hi everyone!

I'm Josh..I live just on the other side of "the bridge" and drive a 1999 F250 7.3 CCLWB ... bought the truck about a year and a half ago because we wanted to upgrade our camper game ... love these older diesels that exist back at a time before the EPA got all crazy over emissions and the manufacturers stealership service customer for life with their 67 different computer modules.

I've been around quite a bit on the 7.3 forum learning a lot as I was brand new to diesels and full size trucks before now....learning a lot and posting under my google+ account...but figured I'd make something more permanent and stick around for a while.

Welcome Josh I have basically the same truck. 1999 F250 SD CCLWB in white. One thing you will need to know when looking for some parts is the build date of the truck found on the door tag. Built until 3/22/99 or after. My truck is a before model..

Hi Josh, I just approved your request for membership and I see you've already found your way around here.

I started out with a 1992 IDI diesel F250. Installed a Banks turbo kit is help with the towing of my 5th wheel RV. What a difference ! Sold it after buying a new 2005 6.0 diesel. When through the usual problems the 6.0 had and now it's been running like a top since. Mine does have SOME of the EPA things on it but nothing like the newer models do ..... this will be my last truck built to tow as my age and costs of replacements are beyond my reach.

Hope you get back to the MD Chapter soon and post often. We are a friendly bunch here in the state chapters and do a lot of cross state postings as you may have noticed. I hope to have a camping get-together some time in the 2019 camping season.... maybe over on the eastern shore...stay tuned !

I'm painfully aware...My build is 1/99 ... so I guess I'm the earliest of the L99 models out there.

6.0's are still great trucks as long as you don't run around in hot tunes rolling coal all day...I did a lot of research before buying such a late model truck, but most of the low mileage 6.0's I could find had done a lot of sitting which the 6.0's are waaay less fond of than the 7.3's, or were only "low mileage" because they were claiming mileage after the full engine rebuild/bulletproofing...

I found my 7.3 from the original owner, a retired gentleman, who had used it from new only to pull a 5'er twice a year from philly to the jersey shore, and then back (seasonal) and otherwise just to run around the small town he lived in...only had 86k on it after 18 years...

I'm always up for a camping GTG...I live about 8 minutes from Tuckahoe state park...we frequently head there for a weekend when we just need to get the boys out of the house but don't want to prep for a full trip. We pull a 38' TT these days though so its getting harder and harder to find sites at the state parks in MD...they all have 'em...just waaaaay less of them than for those under 35'...

My 6.0 does sit for long periods of time between tows. I have just under 70k on it. That's about 5k a year ! I do have a coolant filter, power steering filter, the bigger 6.4 trans pan, all the gauges I need for towing .... so it sits a while but is still running better than ever. I do run a tuner for the tow tune and seldom use the hot street tune....but when I do it get "cleaned out " !!!

I drive mine daily right now...that way I don't have a payment...which really just becomes the budget for all the things I keep needing to repair on a 20 y/o (almost!) truck...

Haven't really done much in terms of performance upgrades, other than just switching over to the big *** 6637 style intake...mostly I'm just replacing/fixing what needs to be done with an eye toward improving performance and efficiency...

Had one of those horrible "marbles in a can" torque converter rattles, so its got a billet tripple disc converter, and 6.0 cooler installed to go with it...had some shoddy work done replacing a leaky pinion seal (they reused the nut and crush sleeve AND over torqued it) which took out my pinion bearing...so since that + my LSD was full limited grip...I went with a full master overhall, new R&P, and new dana truetrac LSD...Turbo's next as I've got a leaky pedestal...so since it's all coming out its all going to be upgraded...haven't decided which way I'll go just upgrading stock or switching to a T4/SXE setup...time will tell...

Hello!

Glad to see you found your way into the Maryland forum. BTW, I live in Delaware but spend a lot of time on the Eastern Shore.

I'm only about 35 minutes out from either Dover or Middletown...do most all our shopping over the state line for the sales tax savings.
