99' F250 7.3 Powerstroke Turbo Crew Cab

Hi Guys,
New to the forum. A quick history is that I've had gas 1/2 ton trucks up till now. Just sold my Toyota tundra and now in search for a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck. I have a small farm with tractors, trailers and other things that the tundra just couldn't haul. I had to always borrow a 3/4 ton gasser when I need to haul anything with any kind of load.

This new diesel will not be a daily commuter as I have a work car. Basically this truck will be used around the farm and in the near future towing some kind of camper up to the mountains to play.

Anyways, an old boy was filling up his 99' F250 and we got to talking and he was looking to sell. The truck's interior and exterior is really good condition. A dent on the back end from cranking a trailer to tight but other than that the exterior is solid. He told me the maintenance was kept up and never had to replace any major parts (engine/transmission, etc.). It has 275K mileage though - which worries me and he would like to get $10k out of it. I think that is too high especially taking in account that he has not had to replace the engine nor transmission yet. Will this occur soon - don't know but thinking that is a price tag of any where $3k to $8k in the near future.

Heard this year of truck and the 7.3 can be tough as nails and ran for the rest of time. But don't want to have the potential of $15k in a 17 year old truck that has close to 300k miles.. if you know what I mean.

Any thoughts on the truck it self and the price. I live in the western slope of Colorado to put it in perspective.... Thanks!

275K on the original transmission?? Is that unheard of or realistic if those $275k miles were not hard miles? It's the 4r100 automatic - I think. I need help if the price of $10k is fair or I should work the guy down to cover a cost of a new transmission in the near future. The truck drove very nice, at least what I could tell - no expert though. If I test drive it again anything particular I should try while driving that will reveal flaws? What else shall I check under the hood? Thanks for any help!

It isn't unheard of for the stock transmission to go 275k, heck, my ZF6 has 363k on and going strong. Price really depends on area and condition. Down in the 7.3 section a fellow member put together a nice list of what to look at on these trucks. 10k isn't unheard of, but if I were to buy it for that it would need to look like it just came out of the factory (I prefer manuals). Did you happen to grab pictures?
