TPMS Question

Q: 1) do TPMSs detect and report ‘over-pressures’ ? 2) it looks like recommended tire pressures for a particular F350 are 60f and 80r, what if I want to run, say, 70f and 70r? Can I override the factory settings? Will the dealer go against the door jamb label and reset the factory settings? ...or am I out of luck ?? Thank you.

the integrated oem (ford) system does NOT alert on anything other than low pressure.
you can reprogram the desired / target pressures with FREE ForScan Software (youll need a wired or wireless or
bluetooth bluetooth
OBDII adapter)

If you're interested in monitored alert on HI/Over Pressure or High/OVER Temperature youre left to 3rd party solutions like the Truck Systems Technology's 507 monitor solution that we on our 10 wheel RV / Jeep set up.

Thanks, bushpilot, it looks like the FORscan will do the trick. I have seen mention of it in other posts, from what I recall it is not too much of an inve$tment nor too difficult to use, I will definitely look into that. thanks again.

assuming you have a windows based portable machine) aka laptop, tablet or virtual machine capable Mac the only investment is the OBDII reader/connection.

with ForScan Lite on my iOS device (also available for android devices) I can monitor other data about the truck - oil condition/life, REGEN status, days/miles since last oil change and any error conditions.

Regen Activated, DPF Filter 33% Full, 497.1 Miles since last Regen
Distance til next oil change (6922.7), oil life remaining (69%), Regen Average Miles (464.8 miles).

It appears that the TPMS trigger settings may be well below a truck’s specific target values. For example, our F350’s pressure settings for the rated GAWs are 60 F and 80 R. However, I currently have the tires set at 55 & 65 (per the TP display in the instrument cluster), and the TPMS system has yet to trigger an alert.

Jim,

thanks

They’re the original OEM tires on 18” wheels: Continental LT275/65R18E All Season

One more note: I set the cold tire pressures recently when the ambient AM temps were ~20F. The tires are running a bit higher now that ambient temps have warmed up; our local forecast for this Sunday is ~70F.

Regards,
Jim / crewzer

Yeah, sounds like you have the 275/70R18E AT tires. Their load rating is higher than the tires on my truck.

I agree that the ride is bouncy / twitchy with spec’d TP and s light load... reducing the TP helps dramatically.

Jim / crewzer

the factory pressures (unloaded) are gonna cause over inflated wear.
I would chalk the tread and see if you can improve the contact patch and soften the ride.

Don't waste your money on the MX for ios. It won't work or let me say your odds of winning the lottery are better than the mx working. I ordered one. Returned it and then had several discussions with the forscan tech team only to find out the mx units for iOS are garbage. they are wifi based and the wifi chip is terrible per the forscan guys. You can get the bluetooth versions for androids and they are rock solid. I'm torn between finding an alternative to use with my iPhone and iPad or getting a cheap android tablet and the bluetooth version from scan tool.

BushPilot what scan tool are you using to read with your iOS devices? Thanks in advance. I'm hoping to find one that works sooner than later.

KCRebel, I ordered an MX+ ( bluetooth) this afternoon, I plan on getting a small inexpensive 7” or 8” Android tablet, I hope that works for me.
