Interior Door Panel Options

I’ve read a few threads on door swaps and understand the interchangeability there, but am not clear on the interior door panels themselves.

I have an ‘85 F150 and the top door panels plastic is gone. I can get these door panels out of a ‘96 F150.

Will these fit without any fabbing? I’ve read there’s an armrest bracket that must be transferred. Also, my ‘85 door panel goes to the bottom of the door. Is it painted inderneith and will look fine with this shorter one?

Why would you want to do that? You should be able to find aftermarket 1980 - 1986 door panels without much trouble. And if you look on Ebay, you can find a nice set there from time to time.

Dennis Carpenter makes them, and they are an exact match to the originals:

The armrest bracket is different, and the large chunk of plastic that goes straight up in front of the vent window is going to look stupid on your truck because that is only there to match the contours of the dashboard on the 1992 - 1996 trucks.

Your '85 door panel does *not* go to the bottom of the door. If it looks like it does, that's because you probably have the optional map pockets underneath the door panel. It *is* painted underneath, but if you have map pockets, there will be some holes for the push pins. Personally, I think the 1992 - 1996 door panel is just ugly and very cheap-looking. The 1980 - 1986 door panels look much better.

Didn’t realize the lower pocket portion was separate.

Dennis C. has the best price. EBay wants 300+ on these!

yup, gonna pass on the panels. The portion that meets the dash is the deal killer.

I’ll just hit the local wrecking yards for something. Shouldn’t be more than $50/pair.

For 1985 and 1986 only, the upscale "Lariat" models also had a fabric insert that matched the seat upholstery. Unlike the regular 1980 - 1986 door panels and all aftermarket 1980 - 1986 door panels, the area behind the fabric insert is perfectly flat so that the insert can fit flush inside.

Does anyone know where I can find the chrome trim that borders the door trim panel?

Certainly not as nice as those shown by LARIAT 85, but are available:

The bad news is, the door panels you have now need to removed and thrown away.

The good news is, the door panels posted by 1986F150six are exactly what you need. They are the correct color, and have the rare manual window roller - most "Lariat" models have electric windows. And, the price is very fair. Don't wait! 1985/1986 "Lariat" door panels in that good of shape don't come around too often. With some very light sanding and the correct SEM color paint, those could look new again if you are going for a total restoration. (For best results, you always want to start with the correct color when you paint over plastic.)

GREAT job, 1986F150six!

Be careful as I think they are 82 or 83 on up because of the lock button on the top edge.
My 81 has the slider locks in the center of the panel.

I can't believe Number4 still hasn't snapped up those 1985/1986 panels.

These parts are well over thirty years old now and those are in great condition at a very fair price. I have noticed since I have restored Lucille good used parts have gone up quite a bit. In fact, I think I paid close to $300 for my replacement OEM door panels. about 5 years ago.
