Is balancing recommended when rebuilding a 7.3?
its .20 over w all OEM parts. Stock forged rods have been cryotreated, and I’m installing a main girdle. Building for over 600hp, but plan on just having 4-450 hp. with 205/30 injectors.
And part of the issue I found was finding a balancing shop that had the weight required to do it.
I couldn't even find one to do a simple align hone of the block's crank journals in my neck of the woods. Ended up shipping the whole ****show to Swamps in TN. Once there, it got about all the machining one can do on a 7.3 and balanced
Those are concerns my machine shop pointed out, low rpm, and they needed to make weights.
Depending on how crafty you are, you could get a scale and grind material off each piston and rod until it's as light as the lightest one. That's the cheap out.
