Hello everyone. Long time lurker from Arizona, but finally got a truck to join the discussion! Proud new owner of an Estate Green 2001 Excursion Limited. V10, 4x4 and has the C3 limited slip 4.30 axles. 131K miles on her and the carfax showed mostly religious maintenance at a Ford dealer. She's an Arizona/downstate Illinois truck. I really wanted to try and find an Arizona Excursion (they seem to be everywhere out here). But they were either way out of my budget, or were tore up and had super high miles. She's got some surface corrosion underneath from the 8-9 years in Illinois, but nothing obscene. Nothing a wire brush, phosphoric acid and some Eastwood rust converter cant handle.
Everything worked thankfully (even the shift on the fly 4x4) except for a few interior components. My girlfriend and I have been raiding our local pick and pulls for all the odds and ends that needed fixing. She needs some paint repair and dents removed but she's pretty solid for being a 17 year old vehicle. I owned a 2002 F-250 V10 4x2 briefly a few years ago. Its got nothing on the Excursion, I love this tank!
!
It does! The person I bought from had F350 springs installed in front. He had, and gave me with the sale, F350 rear springs he didnt have installed yet. Judging by the condition of the rear springs currently installed, they will be an upgrade. Im not sure what spring codes they are supposed to be though. The fronts have a Ford stamping on the main leafs. The rears dont appear to have a stamp on the main leaf, but there is a Ford stamp on the lower short leaf. Maybe aftermarket perhaps.
From my understanding the F350 springs give the excursion a 2 inch lift over stock. Looks pretty good with the 33's on them now, but I think 35's will look perfect.
There's so much knowledge here on this forum about these trucks (err, wagon ). Looking forward to finding out all the cool stuff that can be done.
Did I just see 'shift on the fly 4x4'? Pretty sure that's not a sound thing to do without being at a full stop.
Best color Excursion btw!
calls the system Electronic Shift On the Fly, commonly known as ESOF, shifting into/out of 4 High and 2 High can safely be done at speed, 4 Low (or 2 Low with a mod) needs to be done while stopped in Park or Neutral with a foot on the brake pedal.
