Don't rule out the possibility that it is not a lifter problem at all. Check the ends of each pushrod for unusual wear. The rocker arms themselves may be the culprit. Or even something else not in the valve train. Check each rocker arm by putting a stethoscope or a piece of broomstick against each of the hold down nuts to isolate the location of the noise. Don't rule out the front drive too - its easy enough to take the belts off and run the engine a few minutes. Maybe something scraping in the flywheel area? Or the valve cover itself? Or a fuel pump or cam gears going bad. Think outside the box.
We adjusted the valves and this thing sounds like a sewing machine now. I wish I could post a video but the videos I take with my phone are not compatible with this Site. I am one happy camper with this old Beauty... https://photos.app.goo.gl/D6y6D3V6iipipwGN9
Click on the Link above and it will take you to three videos of the truck running after we adjusted the valves. The Exhaust Valve was so loose on #6 it was rediculous and the Intake wasn't much better. The truck sounds amazing. On the third video my Son is reving it a bit just because I wanted to see how it sounded. Check it out. I am really getting attached to this truck.
