Another thing that I have found is that while you can still see the fluid in the reservoir it might still be low and that will cause the groaning. You have to look at the dip stick for level and it has to almost overflow to be full.
I did check the fluid at the dipstick and it is almost too full, apparently had overflown at some time because there is residue around the opening. Thank you for that tidbit though - as I said, I am a girl and don't always know what to do! Try to use common sense on most things at least!
The pump in my Ex is old, leaky, & a little groany, but it works great. My previous truck had 37-12.50 MTRs and it had a little bit of trouble when not rolling, but not bad. I've driven several of these trucks from 1995 to 2002 with different loads & tires and I don't understand the apparent need to upgrade the pump unless running huge tires. And the idea that towing puts more stress on it is ridiculous, unless its a 5th or gooseneck, since a trailer removes weight from the front tires.
I finished my install yesterday after the previous pump failed within a week! Also replaced my Hydro-Boost unit with a motorcraft unit due to age and slight leakage inside.
With an S&B intake it is really tight but doable and I had to change the upper rad hose. The hose that routes outside if the belt would rest in the reservoir.
Test drove it today and it’s waaaaay better and quiet. Expensive but so far it’s worth it, AND I can easily check the fluid level with the S&B. BTW, I’m rolling on 38’s 👍🏼
New HB installed... Saginaw N pump vs locked up week old unit Reservoir will need turning once you start going on with piping and intake and line adjustments. Not complicated just tedious That’s the most of it!

try running 37’s and 5-6 degrees of caster, slow speed maneuvering is heavy, that is the main reason to run a ram, the filter just saves wear and tear on the pump.
i havent messed with pressures on the 7.3 pump but know the hydroboost is going to need porting if you try snd judt run higher pressures, www.vanco.com would be the go to for info on those mods

I emailed Lee about porting and they said it was not needed.
Mine is still running great and without issue. Of all the benefits this brings to the table, peace of mind is the most worthwhile.
Since LEE never mentioned porting the hydroboost for this kit, I'm thinking they set the pump pressure nearer stock. I'm going to get the hydroboost ported at the same time I get the gear ported and do rams. That will all come when I get time to do the axle upgrades.
I would like to understand more about what vanco does with the porting.
I thought they ported the steering box not the hydroboost? Anyway nice set up. Little spendy for me. I like the ram set up. Works great on Brads truck.

Lee said porting is for the ram setups and to NOT use ATF! Just regular PS fluid, not even synthetic.

Well, Brad on here has that set up and it works fine. But I would think ATF would still be the fluid to use. But I'm sure he had his steering box ported for the set up not the Hydro boost. He loves it with big tires. Steers much straighter to.

I thought ATF was the preferred but I wanted to make sure with this saginaw setup and Ryan with Lee said specifically to use regular PS fluid. I have a vato zone box and stock motorcraft replacement hydro boost and it steers damn near like a car.
