Hey Guys ..well the other night i noticed something i have not noticed before on my truck .. was setting at the stop light and my lights seems to be kinda dim..and then when i gave it a little gas the lights got brighter..so im just wondering what you guys might think it could be ..im thinking alternator or voltage regulator ..but i put a voltmeter on the post of the battery with it running and its putting out 14-15 volts which is good ..but i dont really know of any way to see if the regulator has gone south ...any input would help ..Thanks in advance
Need some more info. Did you just start up your truck? Do you have aux lights? Sound system? When the engine idles down the voltage output on an alternator can drop. If there is something that is drawing a load it can drag down the voltage.
The only thing that i have that draws any power is my radio just radio no amp or anything ..no aux lights either ..i havent noticed if it does it right at start up but when i drive from work to home at night which is about a 15 minute drive when i get home is when i noticed it ..thank for the input ..
I would check the alt belt, and the alt pulley. An alt with many miles will sometimes wear the pulley and it won't grab the belt. Also check your idle speed against the factory specs.
