Will a stock big block c6 and 9" handle 600hp (I won't have that much more like 450 but a margine of error is nice and hay can't a guy dream?!) if not what willl i have to do to them?
I don't think a stock C-6 will last very long without problems. But with that said I know my Dad had 69 Marquis Station wagon ,Yes station wagon, with a 429 built to well over 600HP at the rear wheels (Proven on a dyno) and he raced it at the drag strip every weekend. He had it mated to C-6 but he had to beef it up to take the bounding of a 3500 stall converter and sticky tires. He added I believe one extra cluth to each of the cluth packs and of corse a very hard shifting B&M shift kit set to "LAUNCH". as far as the 9" rear I belive it will handle it. His was "N" Ford Nodular 9 with 4:88 gears LS. but I think even a regular Ford 9 will proubly be all right.
TA Lock
Huge cam, custom made exhaust (no headers made for 69 mecury wagons) He ported and polished intake and exhaust. ran 3 barrel Holy carb(one huge secondary) I believe it was 850cfm and the above mentioned ported intake. many hours on a flow bench etc. it all fit under the hood. and 5 seasons or so of running it down the 1/4 mile ended up at 12.7 pullin the left front tire slightly off the ground at launch. The car was complete not striped down at all, even had the a/c hooked and runnin. all seats including the two back fold downs in the trunk. power eveything. a real pig actually! But when it blew by your pony car at 1/2 track the was no denying the power.
