Has anyone ever done a one peice window in the door of their slick? I know that you would have to modify the hinges, does anyone have info on this mod?
I have read about using a one piece window but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it fpr sure. I think I found it in Custom Classic Trucks a few months ago when I was wasting time shopping.
There have been articles on the C&^%$s, but because of the hinge interference, I do not know that this has been attempted on a Slick. Let me say though, it would be pretty cool, just nobody has owned up to doin it yet...
It's been done. I've seen it
Original door, just cut the pillar out for the vent glass
Personally I like my vent glass because I have no A/C in it yet
But Im building this truck for looks, and I may put a once piece glass in it, as it does have vents in the floor.
I'll ask the guy what window he used.
I have a set of late model mirrors (may be superduty) that I am toying with. I am kickening around the idea of replacing the vent with the mirror setup.
Before you ask, the mirrors are in a box collecting dust waiting for me to get back to the project. Kinda like my tilt column.
There is conflicting info on wheather or not the hinges areobstructing, so fo now I will assume that they are.
How far in from the hung side do the hinges stick in? If you were to use some after market side mirrors and fit them to a triangle in the bottom corner of the window how far back would this triangle filler have to go before the glass cleared the hinges? I want to have a single glass on my 66 and this option looks prity good. I have seen it done on several other trucks, probably just for looks rather than as a necessity.
What do you mean a triangle glass?
You already have one there.
I think thats what your talking about
The hinges aren't really all that bulky inside the door
Pull off the door panel on the inside and poke your head up in there to see how far inward the hinges come. My guess is you would only be looking at 2 or 3 inches so your triangle filler would be relativly small. I think, from your description of the design, you will have something very simiar to the door windows on a 92-02 C*^%* trucks.
The hinges protrude into the door about 4.5 inches. There is a whole stamped assembly in there to support the door in relation to the hinges. And thats the problem as this is in the way of the new window track that is needed....
I have taken doors apart just to figgure out this and still have not come out with a viable soloution on how to support a 150 pound door after removal of the ford stampings..
The only other way is to suicide your doors and then the front support issue becomes moot. And you can fit in the large piece of glass.
4.5 inches huh?
It may go in that far, but the bolt is less than a inch in there
Ive seen it done, so I know it can be done
I still havent gotten ahold of the guy
But the bolt is only a inch or so inside the door, I KNOW, I looked last nite
The last time I was at Carlisle, Garbz and I tallked to a guy that sell thay kind of setup. That is why I am toying with using a late model mirror setup that will use most or all of the vent window space. Inline mirrors would be nice to back with. Those little round ones don't see enough. I am brusing the right side of my truck.
