Now that the '58 is done except for upholstery, I'm getting geared up for the '59 F250 project. I acquired a '61 C600 tilt up (COE) with a 292HD and a Clark 250V 5 speed (not OD). Does anyone here know if the bellhousing will match up with any overdrive manual transmissions? I am hoping to keep the rearend .456 stock and just use an OD trans.
Depending on which way you go, it can get expensive. The Clark has a pretty big opening, I'm not sure if it's the same size as a T98. T98 tranny's were also used in F600's, so if you still have it, you can try to bolt it up to that bellhousing. There are conversion kits to put a T5 behind a 292, but I found and auxiliary overdrive box and put that in instead. Total, $300 That included having the driveshaft modified. Now I have a 4+3 tranny setup.
My take on the T5 is it will not live in a truck, it came in little mustangs. Maybe aT5/ 292 in a light car but not a truck.
I would look at an auxiliary overdrive box or maybe call Gear Vender & Advance Adaptor to see what they may have as they may not list everything they work with n line.

I currently have have a complete 292HD with a 250V Clark 5 speed. Does anyone know if there is a Clark overdrive model or another overdrive trans that will fit the bellhousing on the Clark transmission?
I will probably end up keeping it as is and changing the rear gears if not.
I had a Clark 285 that I replaced with an Eaton FS 4205 transmission and it was bolt in, but fifth gear is still 1:1. I'm not sure if they have any overdrive versions.
There are Clark overdrive models but they can be extremely hard to find. I think one is the 280VO.
I don't know how any of these compare to the 250; you may have to dig up some old specs on them.
Clark did make an overdrive model of that 5 speed. Hen's teeth to find. Do you plan to haul any weight with this truck? If you change the rear gears for too much highway travel you'll ask too much of the engine if your gonna load the truck with stuff. An auxiliary box is your bet bet. However, if you get the correct T5, that 292 won't ever have enough power to break it. Look up Tim McMaster. He has a 58 with a 313cu y block and is running a T5. He hauls a 1800lb camper on that truck and has done so for years.
Wasn’t looking for overall transmission swap ideas just info on what transmission mate to the bellhousing I have. Will the T5 mount to the Clark/292 bellhousing?

I might carry some weight and/or pull a loaded trailer with it now and then but mainly just a driver. If I swap gears but keep the Clark with the low first I should be ok. Would rather keep the .456 gears and find and overdrive truck 5 speed only if I’m not spending and arm and a leg in parts.
Which rear axle do you have to begin with? Have you looked for gears?
My truck has a 5.14 rear end. The auxiliary is 17% overdrive. I don't do any heavy hauling, so I keep the aux box in overdrive all the time. I start the main box in creeper always. Yes, its a slower start, but less stress on the clutch. I have a spicer 5831 3 speed behind my T98 4 speed.
Only thing that'll come close is a 5 over out of an International. KB series in the 40's offered 5 overdrive. Although IH was cast in them, Clark made them. White's used them too, but didn't offer the OD as much as IH did. If you find a T85 R11 tranny behind a Y bock you'll need that bellhousing. But if it's in a car it won't have the truck bell mounting ears.
On another note, since that tranny is out of a cabover, do you have the correct shift tower for your pickup?
Not interested in an overdrive box or pricey conversion. Just wondering if any other transmissions will fit the Clark bellhousing.
The Eaton I referenced earlier was a bolt-in using the Clark bell housing. I believe Eaton bought out Clark at some point; you may want to check into them. I know the FS 4205 is still 1:1 in 5th but they may have other options.

I do not have the shift tower. I have been browsing for one but not looking real serious yet. Still trying to see what my options are.
