Oil Filter Adapter Removal Help
This is the oil filter adapter gasket, and it sits right behind the power steering pump, in the lower picture this is under the left end of the oil filter adapter.
Ford modular engine oil filter adapter gasket. The 2 larger round holes are for oil, the largest hole is for lower radiator hose coolant passage. The oil filter adapter is also the lower radiator hose connection. The other 4 holes are bolt holes, usually a combination of bolts or studs & nuts.
As you can see, the motor mount bolts through the oil filter adapter which runs along that whole side of the engine. There are at least 10 bolts to loosen or remove before the oil filter adapter will safely pull off the block without snapping it. You don't want to break it.
You may be able to gap the oil filter adapter enough to replace the gasket.
Where it actually seals to the block is up front right behind the power steering pump. Take the PS pump loose off the block but don't disconnect the hoses. With the engine securely supported from below, loosen all the motor mount bolts on that side and take off the bolt nuts and studs for the oil filter adapter. The studs should have a hex on the end in order to easily spin them out with a small socket. Lift the engine slightly or maneuver the mount and adapter enough to get a gap behind it in order to slide the old gasket out and a new one in.
