Hey all,
I hope some one can help me out with some wiring issues. I have a 76 F150 with a/c. the problem is this, someone rigged wiring under the dash and it's all burned up. I have it all figured out except for two things: first, there is a single red wire w/black stripe that hooked up somewhere behind the glove box (I accidently pulled it loose) and I don't know what is it powers. Second, there is some sort of "relay" or something mounted to he bottom of the dash on the pass side that the a/c wiring hooks to (what is this thing and what does it do?). I can't understand why some people rig suff like that and think it will last. I'm lucky the truck didn't burn to the ground!
Well, that diagram didn't quite match up with what is in my truck, but it did help a little with the relay issue. I replaced all the burned up wiring today and still nothing works, could everthing just be fried or maybe just a relay or something? I bought a Chiltons and it didn't help at all with the problems that i'm having. So maybe someone might have a seguestion.
What wires burned exactly? Were they in a cluster of other wires? Maybe even down the line? If you have the dash off, might as well unwrap the harness and check for other hot spots. Did you just replace that section you saw burned? Splice or whole new pieces? The red/white wire on my truck goes to the temp resistor in the air box. I had an aftermarket a/c in the truck mounted behind the dash that I ripped out (can't stand a/c ). So I'm no help at all on the relay, sorry
The wires that burned were in a cluster all of there own and I did rip in to the the other harnesses and found some that seemed like they might have gotten warm cause they kinda stuck together but they all had continuity(sp?). The two wires I can't seem to find a home for are green and red/black wires. I got to thinking about it and remembered something about a resistor(??) in the plenum that controls the blower speed, is this correct? And if it is could this be a problem? Note: the blower doesn't work at all and from what i remember it usually only fails low or high but not all right?
Oh, one more thing I'm really not concerned about saving the a/c but I will need heat to defrost the windows in a few months.
