Hello, I am new to this forum and wanted to post a question. I have a 88 F-150 streight 6. The bed is in real bad condition and will need to be replaced if I restore, however I was thinking of going to a flatbed. How hard or expensive would that be?
That all depends on how crafty you are. i am in the middle of the same project on my 87. it is going well, we are making one out of steel( we are fabricators by trade) as far as labor it isn't that hard to swap beds, but making one is a little rougher. six bolts take the old bed off. you might be able to buy one cheaper than a factory bed i personly love the flatbed we made for our 77 and i had to have one on my 87, it didnt hurt that the factory bed was shot can you weld? wood ones are nice to but i love the look of a proffesional looking flat bed. need specifications? e-mail me. -chad

thanks for the tips. I was thinking of going with a wood bed with a steel frame so I can put up some side boards. This would be mainly for light duty hauling, like hay. I don't weld, I would have to get that done for me. I guess I am looking for some sort of designs to follow or the basics in converting to a flat bed. I have dual gas tanks and was wondering how that was handled, stuff like that. Then I can evaluate the costs of just replacing the bed.
I am pretty crafty, but my tools are limited. So any welding I would have to have done for me. I will email you about specifications, thanks.
I have an aluminum flat bed that bolts on to you frame , no welding , no special tools, IM looking to SELL it ,, intrested,,, it has fold three fold down sides,,
