fyi only ...

From Page 45 of the 6.0L Coffee Table Book
https://www.ford-trucks.com/ford-man...ble%20Book.pdf

• Cam/Crank Sync: SYNC is achieved when the PCM receives a signal from the Crankshaft sensor and Camshaft sensor indicating they are working and in time. If the Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors are working improperly, the PCM cannot calculate engine speed or cylinder position, preventing fuel delivery.

• No SYNC (Cam/Crank) with an RPM signal typically is a faulty CMP sensor/circuit problem. • No SYNC (Cam/Crank) and no RPM signal, typically is a faulty CKP sensor/circuit problem.

• FICM SYNC: The FICM uses CMPO (Camshaft Position Sensor Output) and CKPO (Crankshaft Position Sensor Output) signals, which are sent by the PCM, to calculate FICM SYNC. FICM SYNC is calculated by the FICM and is the correlation between the camshaft pin and the crankshaft triggers. Once FICM SYNC is achieved, the FICM uses engine speed, MFDES (Mass Fuel Desired), EOT, and ICP to calculate fuel timing, pulse width, and pilot injection usage.

Did a little research and I sure don't see where the Edge CTS will give cam/crank sync OR the Mass Fuel Desired (MFD).

That is a shame, because the start cycle begins with cranking, then cam/crank sync, then a MFD is generated by the PCM and sent to the FICM, then the FICM syncs, and (a long as ICP and rpms are adequate) sends fueling commands (fuel pulse width, etc). So .... if you see a MFD, you know you have cam/crank sync. Also, as stated earlier, since you have rpm, you know that at least you have a functional crank sensor.

That said, a lack of FICM sync will not prevent you from getting the needed high pressure oil pressure when cranking. To prove this, just pull the FICM relay on a working 6.0L and watch the ICP pressure rise when cranking.

You may still have an issue w/ FICM sync, but the issue w/ low ICP seems to be a definite.

If you look at the ends of the injector harness where the fittings snap into the injectors the wires crack from heat and will be bare. I had to replace mine and was not a hard fix. Buy a new harness online for like $90

Mark, sorry for the delay but you are correct my Edge does not show cam/crank sync and mass fuel. But, if the RPM means the crank sensor should be working I'll try running down the cam sensor wiring harness to see if maybe its oil soaked or possibly loose. Turkey day will mean more lost time but it's fun to see the kids for day or two.

If you have a good rpm signal, your CKP (crank sensor) is ok.

So wait, the IPR climbs to 85% and ICP maxes at 300psi? That sounds like a high pressure side leak. Have you air tested it?

In post #1 he states:

"What I have done was apply 12 volts to the IPR, put a 5K pressure gauge in the IPC side, cranked the engine with the starter wire and within several seconds got to at least 2.5K pressure before I stopped cranking, you could hear the engine start to slow own because of the pressure build, so the HPOP was doing its thing (new from Ford)."

From that post, it doesn't seem like a leak or a bad HPOP. That is what led him to a bad IPR possibility.
