Owners manual stats that you have to align the Mark's on the hubs to the dots on the outside to be in the locked position. One side doesnt have marks so I turned it all the way until i couldn't any.ore. 4wd works. My question is if it's not aligned perfectly will i cause damage?
Locking hubs should be easy enough to turn with one hand. Some are firmer than others but should not require too much effort.
I'm not sure what year you have, if you talking OEM (manual or auto/manual), or aftermarket so it is hard to pick a how-to. My generation of SD is a 'non-serviceable' unit so there's not much how-to other than counter-clockwise (as you face the wheel) is auto/free and clockwise (as you face the wheel) is lock. You should get out in the dirt for 5-10 miles a month the exercise the system (4HI and 4LO) but that's about it.
Mine turn easily but the are aftermarket Mile Marker hubs, the factory ones failed long ago.
Are the Mile Markers a direct bolt on replacement? The ones shown on their site look a lot different than the stock ones, and my local mechanic tells me only the Ford factory ones work. I’d like to be sure before I order them.
Thanks
edit to add; I changed my search parameters and believe I found what I’m looking for.

The Mile Marker 449ss hubs are a direct fit on 99-04 Superdutys.
