With the tremendous success of the Super Duties these days and the unbelievable amount of campers being towed down the road, you ever wonder why the Excursion has not returned? It seems like such an easy build considering what needs to be done to an existing truck. But I'm sure someone here knows the reason why. I do not.
Just seems like this generation of Super Duties turned into an Excursion with the 6.7 would be a big hit.
Why wouldn't the Excursion come back? Didn't Ford announce they're getting away from manufacturing cars (except the 'Stang will stay) and will concentrate on additional SUVs? I suspect another Excursion is in the pipeline.
I would think they don’t need it anymore because they have the expedition max- could throw the 5.0 diesel in it if need be
the Excursion IMO was designed with a man in mind and not a suburban mom. If you were taking your wife around and you could drive a quite suburban or a loud excursion - as sales would confirm- they would pick a suburban or Yukon.
Now that the diesel is cleaner and quieter I could see a woman driving one around more. My wife has a 17 suburban and loves my 19 KR. She couldn’t believe how quick it is and she said it was fun to drive.

I've never investigated the Expedition, so I'm curious what it's rated towing capacity is. Doesn't it have IRS? And what 5.0 diesel? The early Excursions had the 7.3L diesel.

I've had two Excursions and I thought they were not much more than uber-capable soccermom-mobiles. They weren't nothing more than a huge stationwagon. BTW, is the term "stationwagon" still used mowadays?

I for one am damn glad it hasn't returned... worst driving vehicle I've ever owned... Ford decided to soften the
springs for all the soccer moms towards the end and it wallowed like a pig... Couldn't wait to get rid of it.

There was a fix for that. I installed THESE on both my '01 and '05.
I hear the negatives and totally understand. But that was 15 years ago.
Look at today's Super Duty. I know people who have one just to have one. They don't tow jack squat. But the ride is so much better, the engine so much quieter and more powerful, and the cab inside is amazing.
Just seems if I were a family man who loves pulling the travel trailer around the country, that would be the ultimate family truck.
If there was enough of a demand, Ford would build it. GM still makes the Suburban, but Ram has avoided the product line. Ford killed it off because they are going to focus on fuel efficient automobiles and mobility platforms [read that as electric autonomous vehicles], not on Diesel powered station wagons that weigh over 7,600 pounds.
The price would also be rather excessive for a "family truckster".

Same experience here. Very frustrating. Felt like it was going to roll all the time.
Maybe I'm crazy but I still have my 05 Excursion and I still love it. I did spend/waste a lot of money fixing the 6.0 though. I'm on my 2nd 6.7 (traded my 2017 for a 2019) and I agree these platforms are better in every way. I think the Excursion is just nostalgic.
