2020 "Baby Bronco" revealed
From the text in this article, the vehicle in the projected slides is a baby Bronco and probably a crossover....
But it does have a more utilitarian appearance than I thought we'd see from Ford. Still waiting, I guess, for the bigger Bronco (based on the Ranger). Maybe they will use some of the same style cues to create an off-road SUV "family" kind of like Jeep with the Cherokee/Compass/Grand Cherokee having similar looks.
Edit--they talk about the "outline" of the new Bronco and it is a shadow behind the side view pic of the orange baby Bronco. Definitely squared off...

I sure wish we had more than that! Very large shadow looks like a 4 door version there to me. Seems larger than the under the sheet one we saw earlier. Based on that silhouette though I think I can say I’m in the market for my first brand new vehicle though. Lol. Yay for more truck payments.

Ya know, if Ford establishes some kind of identity for the Bronco, it almost could be--and they could cash in selling accessories and mods for the Bronco--although they also have the Raptor, 4WD pickups in general including the new Ranger, and the FX4 version of the Expedition. So they may be better off to do a Toyota "TRD" kind of thing for their whole off-road fleet, and use SVO or Roush to help out.
I am quite surprised and intrigued about the possibility that the Bronco is not just gonna be a rebadged version of the Everest.

The C pillar on this is really ugly, with a small rear quarter window behind it. I sure hope this is the so called baby Bronco and not what we all have been waiting for.
It's hard to gauge the size of this, but the rear doors seem very small. This looks more like a Jeep Renegade than anything else.

The baby Bronco is indeed Renegade-sized; it's probably a good city car for many people with a cool "look"...weird things like the Kia Soul are selling in numbers if they prove to be reliable.
The Big Bronco shadow is on the wall behind the projected side view of the orange mini-Bronco. And the big one looks boxy as hell including a very vertical windshield. I'd almost feel conspicuously non-areo in something that boxy. We'll get what Ford brings us, and like I said I am very surprised that it's not looking like an Everest as much as I was sure it would.
Off topic, but the new Jeep Pickup (called Gladiator) made it to the front pages today and looks cool. We need a similar unveiling of the new bigger Bronco.

Yeah, Ford has been very protective of the Bronco. Amazing considering most people have a camera on them and the ability to post that pic worldwide in seconds.
Ford needs a home run or at least a triple on the Bronco. And more importantly needs a steady sales strategy instead of selling all they can make at first, only to find that there are no more takers.

Wouldn't be precedent setting though. Both the Bronco and the smaller Bronco II were produced concurrently for about 7 years up to 1990. They were marketed to different groups much like I imagine they will be doing for the current versions.

and they wonder why and how badly Ford execs and senior designers are lost (IMHO of course)….
The original Bronco sold because it brought capabilities and general comfort to a segment that the Jeep CJ 5 IIRR at the time simply didn't have. The CJ was a true utilitarian (military) type vehicle where the bronco brought a bit of style, power, and comfort to the scene..... ride in a CJ for 4 hours and then ride in a Bronco....totally different and for those who wanted the military type vehicle, they had it...but even the ag industry went on to like the broncos and they still had utilitarian usage but had just enough creature type comforts.... and for not much more $.
The bronco II was actually a nice little run-around type vehicle...nothing more, nothing less....all intended for light duty use (not that it couldn't be built up)
and here we have Ford...… this looks like they have built a competitor for the Toyota CJ5 cruiser.... which was targeted for the female college age crowd..... (although a few "yuppie mommie wanna-bees bought a lot of them too down in Huntington and Manhattan Beach California)….. and what a POS that was and yes there is a reason they only lasted a few years on the market..... the "fad' disappeared and the dislike of them grew when the repair bills started adding up...… there was one mechanic shop down in Manhattan Beach that started marketing that they specialized in these things..... and there lot was always full of cars being worked on and they had mechanics inside and outside the shop just to stay up with the work.
Now on the this "wonder-design".... IMHO, lacks complete design congruency, targeting a most likely segment that will be at best 'short term" buyers over the long haul and be completely absent of long term sales foundation. A Ford exec was being interviewed on TV not long ago...… "unconscious" is the best way I could described this self acclaimed lead designer..... even the host of the show, at times was almost speechless because they couldn't or wouldn't give a straight answer about anything..... and when they did, it was with PR material...… about how good the company was doing financially and had all these great plans for the next century....the host even asked politely, "what type of sales volume are we referring to here....when the Mustang was 1st introduced Ford sold about 700,000 units...and the economy was not all that great"..... they side-stepped the question.
But getting back to this new bronco..... IMHO, there is a true need and market 9long term) for a modern version of the original Bronco..... this is nothing more than a Toyota copy-cat designed by the sticker crowd for the sticker crowd.
