we went camping this weekend. when we got to the camp ground, i restarted the truck about five minutes later and it would not go in to drive at first. after a few minutes it went in to gear.
I drove it around the camp ground all weekend with no problems.
i just drove home and stopped in front of the house to move another car. i put it in drive and nothing. pulled it in to low and it started to move again.
Acts like there is no fluid. i checked it and its full.
my brother in law has a rebuilt trans out of a 2003 f550 6.0 2wd. mine is a 02 7.3 4x4. i know i may have to change the rear cap for the transfer case.
dose anyone know if it will work ?
I hear that these transmissions crack internally somewhere and it will lose pressure. and it is not rebuildable with out a new body. ?

It won't bolt to the engine. That's a good thing, because if you did get it bolted up you'd find that you don't have any way to make that trans shift when connected to a 7.3L.

Most likely you have a cracked forward clutch piston. That takes a rebuild to fix, but not a new case.
ok. drove the truck all week with no problems. shifted normally. so i had a race to go to and pulled the trailer 160 miles up hill up the 14.
got to the track and disconnected and parked with no issues. loaded up and drove home in a very strong head wind. no issues.
got home yesterday and parked to move my work truck again and moved with no issue. disconnected and tried to pull forward. would not go unless you got it up to around 2500 rpm's. acting like its low on trans fluid then grabs.
pulled forward and back a few times and it would not go forward. after talking with my brother inlaw. i turned off the overdrive and it surged twice then moved.
He seems to think the pump is about to let lose. ?
