I have an 86 F-150 with a 302 FI. I recently had muffler shop install a single in/out flowmaster 40 series muffler (with the exit behind the rear tire). This combo did not give me the exhuast tone I was expecting (deep/rumble).
If I cut the tail pipe off and run a short turn down pipe out of the back of the muffler, will this make it louder/deeper. Will it sound good? Will it cause any power/torque loss.
Thanks for the help! I was actually thinking about leaving the pipe all the way to the rear axle then running a turn down. That way there wouldn't be lot's of noise in the cab.
Bascially cut the corner piece (around the rear tire) off and turn it down. Will this make any difference for sound/power?
Maybe a lil' bit... You might wanna just put like a 4" exhaust tip on the end of the current tailpipe. With my exhaust tip I notice more rumble and a deeper note than without one. Also looks good to boot.
With flowmasters the best luck I have had with sound is with a big 4 inch tip (3.5 or bigger) to get a decent tone, with turndowns, or anything else they sound like a giant vacumn cleaner IMHO.
Thanks That is probably what I will do. I just can't figure out why my flowmaster 40 series sounds very close to a stock muffler! It is very quiet and sounds very weak
I thought dumping the cats would help but still no difference? I have taken off the smog pump belt and still no difference?
Which one would work better: a 4" slash cut tip or a 4" MEG tip from jegs(which looks like a megaphone)?
