Just put in my rebuilt C5 transmission in my truck and checked all data, and it gave me a measurement of 11 sum quarts of Type F fluid to fill both the transmission and the oil cooler. The problem is that I have an aftermarket oil cooler so I have no real idea on what i need to fill it to. If anyone knows, it be a big help! Also if anyone knows where to get a C5 trany dipstick (just the dipstick, not the tube) that be great.
Well I was going to say 1 qt in the converter before you install it on the trany and fill the trany till it shows in the stick, guess you cant do that.
So tell us what you are working on year / model / motor size / 4x2 or 4x4 and I am sure some one can find the part number and maybe list if anyone has one.

I also wonder if a C4 would work as I think the C4 & C5 are the same with the C5 having HD parts.
I think that is where I would start look for a C4 tube & stick till someone says other wise.

Do you not have a dipstick? If you don't it will be difficult to get the oil level correct. If you do, put 11 quarts in it and then start it up on level ground and let it warm up. Press on the brake and shift through all the gears and then put it back in park. If it was trying to move when you shifted it, you know you are in the ballpark. With it idling and in park, pull the dipstick, wipe it off and then put it back in and check it again. If it's not even on the end of the dipstick, put a quart more in it and then check it again. Keep checking and filling till you get it up to the "C" mark on the dipstick. Then take it out for a test drive. Bring it back and check the level again, if you went for a decent drive you want it to be closer to the "H" mark on the disptick.
