1/2" front and rear originally, including 1979 F350 4WD's that used Dana 60's front & rear.

Oops, I corrected my previous post mentioning the "D1" instead of the "E1" that you showed on your axle tag.
But like ND said, that's still an '81 truck part. And isn't the rear axle the one with the larger studs anyway? That would explain why they're not a match to the front axle, assuming the front one is not also swapped in that is.

Any info on the "24 P" code in his truck Bill?
And what about those E1TA numbers? Would they have changed every year, or could an axle have carried the same number over several years still? Meaning the axle could have come out of, for example an '84 truck instead of only an '81?

So @NumberDummy my confusion is my axle tag on the door plate is 24P . That says I should have 4.10s Dana60/61 rear and a Dana60F with 4.55s. My truck has under it a Dana44 see pic where the pumpkin says 446C <- thats the front axle and the rear axle is the 605022-1 3.73 E1TA Dana 61.

What does my axle tag actually decode to (ie What axles SHOULD my 74 F250 have under it) and if I am correct, why are my gear ratios different?

Correct that tag is on my rear axle.

So crap someone HAS been swapping axles on me. I don't know why you'd DD a truck with Dana60 front and rear and swap it out for this crap.

E1TA-BZB = 1981/85 F250 Dana 61-1 ~ 3.73-1 // 1980/83 F250: E0TZ-1107-A Stud - 1/2" -20 x 2 9/32" / 1984/85 F250: E3TZ-1107-D Stud - 1/2" -20 x 2.00"

1973/75 F250 24P: 24 = Dana 60 Rear Axle 4.10-1 // P = Dana 44-6CF 4.09-1 Front Driving Axle.

Parts catalog sez 4.55 which is an error.

Ok my question is what axles should my truck have if my tag says 24P?

So I guess in summary. My front axle is still original. My rear axle has been swapped out for an 80s Dana61 which still doesn't explain why I had the 9/16" wheel stud. And the catalog was a misprint. So I should've had 4.10 and 4.09 gears.

Thanks again Numberdummy, sometimes I can't believe the knowledge you've gotten stored in your noggin. I'm sure you've forgotten more than I will ever know on these trucks lol

Edit* fixed my comment about wheel studs to reflect NDs info from earlier (it slipped my mind) and he mentions it again further down.

The rear axle has 3.73's, so what is the front axle? It was 4.09, but what is it now? The E1TA rear studs are 1/2."

Distracting: While you sit back home in Indiana, I've got one eye on the computer, the other on the TV .. watching the fire news.

We've got a HUGE brush fire burning here, the other night when the winds died down, a bit of it began burning north to within a mile of my house.

The fire dep't knocked it down using ground personnel, but to the south, it has burned all the way to the Pacific Ocean, jumping both the 101 Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway in the process.

100's of homes have burned....and more are burning right now in Malibu.

I will have to find out. I don't think it has the axle tag anymore.

Interesting so someone still replaced the studs on the Dana61 rear axle. Is that something they could have done or would the entire axle hub have been replaced?

Also sorry to hear! Stay safe out there, I've got a little bit of the fire on the news but hadnt heard too much. Right now we are in the 20s and 10s. Hope the fire stays away from you!

Edit* also yes in your earlier post I remember you did mention the Dana61 was still 1/2". Wondering why mine ended up with 9/16" but who the heck knows with my PO.
