4.6 questions

I have a few questions about the 4.6. First, are there any major differences between a ‘97 and ‘02? Second, what would need to be changed if putting the 97 in an 02 truck? These may sound like dumb questions, but, I asked any way.
Background info
I put a 97 motor in my daughters 02 truck. Everything looked right until I started plugging in the harness. The sensor in the valley was different. Didn’t notice the intake was different til I started putting in the COP’s, no way to secure them to the intake. Any way, finished everything up, tried to start it. I don’t think it’s getting any fuel. Can a fuel pump go bad from just sitting?
i know it would been wise to ask these questions before the swap, but I didn’t know until the end.

Well a good look over would have revealed a lot of these things.
First the ignition set up is different between the years so you should have saw this right off.
Second the heads are a different combustion chamber design. Called NPI on the 97 and PI on the 02. the difference is PI heads on a 97 would boost compression to over 10 to 1. This might present ignition timing ping under some driving conditions. It may be covered by using higher Octane gas.as a bit more performance might be observed.
Third, the intake ports may not match between them.
The rest is just looking at the differences.
.
Never rely on fitting into others cloths until you check sizes!
Good luck.

put the key in the ignition and turn to ON, not start.......... listen for the fuel pump to run for 3 seconds and build up pressure in the fuel rail... maybe have a buddy stand by the rear tire and listen... if the pump don't run, you don't have fuel... there may be a Schrader valve ( like on a tire) on your fuel rail above one head.. you can push the pin and see if it SQUIRTS to see if you have some fuel... don't put your face in front of valve.

There were actually 2 different 4.6 motors used... Lima and Romeo I believe. There are several nuanced differences. As mentioned before, the head design changed in '99-'00.
