Hey guys! I have an 86f250 rocking a stock carb 460 with the eidlebrock performance intake and doug thorley mid length headers and just changed out my timing chain from stock and replaced the stock cam with the sum-3500 and I can’t get it to start. Positive I’m getting spark and fuel and my timing is spot on. Any suggestions?
What have you tried? I got my hadn't run is 20 years stock carb on my 351 to start and run with a quarter cup of gas poured under the choke plate (had to lift it up). that was when there was no fuel getting through the fuel system or carb which you don't have going on but might move things further along for you...
It ran great a couple of weeks ago when I pulled it apart. And I tried dumping gas through the carb and turning it over but still didn’t get gas down to the spark plugs( I pulled out #1 and #5) after turning it over for a bit. I’m leaning towards there being a valve train issue but I just don’t know enough about internals to make an educated desition. And thanks in advance.
It ran before cam change and timing chain, is it attempting to fire any cylinders? Off the top of my head I can see timing being out as number one guess.

I checked that and double and triple checked it. Timing is correct as far as I know. I set it between 10-15* BTDC on the balancer and then installed the distributor on the #1 plug.
Does it sound like it wants to start but just will not catch?
Is it back firing out carb or tail pipe?
Did you try a little gas down the carb and if so what happened ?
You check for spark at coil & distributor what did you have?
Come back with answers and we can go from there.

The outer sleeve on the balancer can slip, making the timing marks very inaccurate. Use a soda straw (or something similar) to set #1 piston at TDC. Then see if the timing marks on the balancer also show TDC.

it was back firing out of the tail pipe when I had it set 180* off when I first did the timing but I fixed that. Yes I did try pouring gas down the carb. And I checked spark at #1 and #5 cylinders and made sure of spark.
*** I GOT HER RUNNING***** on the balancer there is a line going all the way across at about 8-9 BTDC. I set it right on that line and she fired right up! Thanks for all the help guys!!!
