Econline 2008: Tire Jack Holder Removal?

Hello

Does anyone have any videos for proper removal of the thing that holds the tire jack? In the back right corner facing forward. It looks riveted in. Standard removal methods for rivets I'm guessing? The placement looks like it'll require drilling.

Thanks

If I recall, those are a pain to drill.
I think I just hit them with a grinder and snatched what was left out with locking pliers.

Three of my E-Series have the spare tire hoist bolted to the cross member---they're self-tapping screws IIRC. Most will come out or break off when trying to remove---one or more might spin in the hole and would need to be drilled out. As WiskeyVI says they're usually a PITA to remove. For reattaching I'd use a coated Grade 5 bolt, nut and washer.

If you're replacing the hoist once the replacement is installed I extend the cable its full length and coat the cable with Fluid Film, the brushable type over the sprayable.

Make sure the cable is fully coated---it prevents the entire thing from becoming a boat anchor.

Using a cutoff wheel, cut an X in the head of the rivet. Then use an air hammer or cold chisel and hammer and knock the head off the rivet.
