I have a 1991 f150 custom. I need the buzzer to sound when the lights are left on when i turn off the ignition. The buzzer wiring harness has the brown wire that runs from the light switch, this brown wire has power when the lights are on. The current buzzer lacks the blade that inserts into the headlight clip on the harness. I've noticed that buzzers in general are white or black, some have the headlight blade others don't, and they mount differently. The most common aspect to most of the ford buzzers is 10b924 within the part number. i would much rather replace the current buzzer rather then do a work around with a pezzo. I've bench tested the current buzzer and only one (ignition) of the two buzzers work. Would any buzzer that contains 10b924 in the part number work as long as it has the headlight blade that inserts into the harness. I'm not worried its a chime or a buzzer.
I got one from NAPA...less than $10...fits inside the fuse box door...has 2 spades that plug in beside the proprietary fuses (see instructions). When lights are left on with key off...it SCREECHES...LOUD. You'll never kill your battery again.

I added the NAPA headlight buzzer to my 97 F350 because my factory chime had nothing to do with "lights on/key off"...it made noise for seat belts or key in...can't remember...it was useless and annoying...one of the first things I discarded. Perhaps the chime was bad.

If you had a buzzer, then there wasn't a headlight warning... that is a feature of the chime module. When I "upgraded" my '95 XL from a buzzer to a chime, I gained the headlight warning... which I'm a big fan of.

Now I'm curious. Later today I'll do some digging...take a look at the module I took out...buzzer or chime...I don't remember...that was about 10 years ago. I wasn't aware of the "chime upgrade" for headlight warning until this thread.

Buzzer...
Chime...
Notice the extra pin on the chime? That's for the headlight warning.

I found the module I removed...it's the headlight warning chime. The PO had an electric trailer brake arrangement hooked up under the dash...perhaps the headlight wire to the chime was knocked off upon removal of brake box and wiring when I bought the truck...who knows. So now it's just academic...I'm in no mood to lie with my feet up and my head under the dash digging for, or chasing wires...though I would prefer a pleasant chime to the banshee-like screech of the NAPA unit (p# 782-1637, by the way). This matter is now in the "let-the-next-owner-worry-about-it" file. Thanks to all at FTE for the info.

I know the '92-'97 OBS have just one plug that goes to the chime module, and the headlight-on wire is included (even in trucks with the buzzer). Thought it was funny that my '95 XL had all the wiring in place for the headlight warning... Ford just chose to make that a "luxury" item :P

OK...thanks for that info...one less wire to chase. Ergo, I must have a bad chime module...and my '97 F350 XLT must be "luxury"...as I chop down the road, clutching and rowing my ZF5...and the carpet-delete vinyl flooring...and the Warn Premiums...I could go on.
