e4od is from a 96 2wd 5.0
Any one done it?
Anything to look out for?
Which trans controller is the best to use?
thanks in advance
I have an E4OD behind an EFI 434(400 motor) in my '53 F100, and also one behind a carb'ed 302 in my '83 F100. The '53 uses a Baumann Optishift controller. The '83 uses a DIY controller. You need a Throttle Position Sensor, and a speed sensor. I use a TPS from a Jeep on the '83. Edelbrock offers a TPS for their carbs. The Speed sensor is tricky. Most E4OD tranny's do not have splines in the output shaft for a speedometer sensor. I have a spare 2WD tailshaft housing, that will accept the speedometer sensor. You will still need to tear down the trans & install a splined output shaft.
The trans I have has the port or hole where the speed pickup or cable should go. The hole has a removable cap that was not used in the previous vehicle.
I haven’t looked inside the hole for a splined shaft.
Thanks for the info
The basic issue here is the E4OD is probably a BBF pattern, and the 351C will be a SBF. The 4R70W is available in SBF. Saving you hundreds for an adapter. It is also a smaller transmission. The E4OD is huge and doesn't fit easily in some vehicles.
