I need some advice!

My 2001 Excursion has a 7.3l diesel and runs like a charm in warm weather. But once the cold weather hits so do the problems! Right now I am experiencing overcharging of the batteries (according to the idiot light). It happens when I accelerate but the voltage goes down once I take my foot off the accelerator. I have replaced the alternator which has an internal voltage regulator (you probably knew that already!). Ran fine for a day and now it's back to overcharging the batteries. I do know that I have a bad glow plug. I think the problem has something to do with the bad glow plug buy hubby thinks I am crazy since the glow plug has nothing to do with the charging system. Yet the problem only occurs when the temperature drops overnight. Any ideas? I thought about disconnecting the glow plug relay to see if that might alleviate the problem - you know, troubleshooting before going crazy replacing parts. Hubby doesn't have time to replace the bad glow plug and won't let me do it by myself. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated! Thanks!

V10 guy here, so I have next to no experience with the diesels, but would it be possible to just unplug the bad glow plug and see if the charging issue is still there?
