I was wondering if anybody has any tips on how to easily put my hood back on right. I had to take it off to replace the wiper motor and my friends keep telling me what a pain in the as it is to put back on right. I'm brand spanking new to working on vehicles so this is the first time I've had to put a hood back on. It's a 1990 F150 XLT Lariat, any advice?
Oh, I see you've already taken it off. Just put a towel around each corner of the hood to protect your paint. Take your time and tighten the bolts only hand tight. Lower it anch check teh aligment on the latch. Once you've got that. Lift it as little as possible and snug your bolts. Shut carefully and check gaps on each side on your fenders. Just make sure it doesn't rub and realize it probably wasn't prefect to begin with.
My first reply didn't post. I use a fine tip sharpie to circle the bolts and hindges before disconnecting to help with alightment later. Also you only needed to undo the hinge. I left teh spring attached and just rotated it forward for that job.
Thanks, Camo!! I'll definitely be taking your advice when I put it back on. I realize it probably wasn't perfect when I took it off but I want to try to get it back on as straight as possible. My friends had told me to mark it before I took it off and it totally slipped my mind. I wishing I would have remembered now. Thanks again!
