Does Ford not use stainless steel exhaust on these trucks anymore? I realize that I live in the rust belt and all, but i have an exhaust leak in my truck already caused by the pipes rusting. I was under it a couple months back fixing a loose heat shield on the crossover pipe, which turned out to be very rusty. That's probably where the leak is now, is at the crossover pipe. Fortunately the cat looks solid. I have not had it to the shop yet to get an estimate on repairs. At this point I'm not sure I even want to know. The shop that I deal with is good and has the ability to cut out and weld in only what they need to without replacing the whole assembly as other shops would do. Of course, that depends on how far they need to cut to find some decent pipe to weld to.
I also have rust starting on my left bedside over the rear wheel, where the metal gets very thin anyway. The way this truck is starting to rust, at only 6 years old, kinda leaves me a little disappointed to be honest. I've only got 54k on the odometer. I haven't had to replace exhaust since I had my first Ranger, a 1986 model.
Pgh Rebel ... Does Ford not use stainless steel exhaust on these trucks anymore? ...
Yes, they still are stainless steel. And, yes, it does oxidize, however, wouldn't consider it rust.

Age, mileage macht nichts (or very little) if you never, or seldom, wash the undercarriage or have it rust-proofed.
.
Turns out the exhaust wasn't rusted. The very annoying exhaust leak was due to a broken flex coupler in front of the muffler. I had a new one welded in on Monday and now the Beast is back to his old nice, quiet self. That constant drone on the highway may have been tolerable 20 years ago but now it was just downright annoying! The odometer is about to roll 55k here in the next day or two.
