F700 Data Plate Decode?
Anything in particular for I should look for when I go view the truck? The guy says its needs a general tune up and a little brake work...but otherwise seems to be in decent shape. I was originally looking for a 1-ton pickup with dump bed for personal use but found this and thought a little bigger wouldnt hurt. It will be used strictly for use on my personal property, bringing in top soil/gravel for driveway etc..and trucking out stumps/etc...things like that.

Any other way to tell the year of the truck?
Any other info that can be gathered from the data plate? I'm hoping to go check out the truck Monday, would just like to go with as much info as possible. Thanks!

Anything in particular about those specs stand out as either good or bad? Or anything in particular to look for?
Is it pretty standard to not having power steering on these rigs?
Anything to check for with the 361?
Thanks! Appreciate the info. I really like to do some research prior to seeing something Im interested in buying...helps to show up knowing what you look out for.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
361 engine is better than a 330 but not as torquey as a 391, tuff engines, I'd take a 361 over the newer 370's any day.
5 spd trans is a plus but that's a pretty low in the rear axle, 60 mph is going to be close to max speed.
You said it needs brake work and that's some of the more difficult parts to find, there's still places that will reline the shoes but if the drums are worn out replacements are getting hard to find.
The current owner told me it will fire up and run on ether but it wont stay running on its own. He claimed its a rubber diaphragm on the carb thats cracked? I'm really not all that familiar with carburetors but Im guessing a simple rebuild kit would take care of that? The truck had 67,xxx miles...but he did say it could be 167,xxx for all he knew since the odometer only has 5 digits.
Otherwise all I know it needs other than that repair is the brakes felt pretty soft...a lot of the brake lines had been replaced so Im guessing they just need to be bled out real well. It had its share of bumps and bruises but nothing really that major.
Overall very little rust...living in northern New England I was quite surprised not to see holes in it. The underside of the dump bed had surface rust, but there was another layer welded in the floor inside the bed previously. The actual supports for the bed looked ok.
I know its very subjective to where you are located...but what would you guys think a truck like this is worth? I'm hoping with the condition its in I can maybe buy it, fix it up and use it for my projects around the property...then sell it for enough to at least break even.
Thoughts?
Anybody know where I can find a manual for it?
It seems to be running real well, but the brakes are non existent. The vacuum line to the brakes was disconnect due to a little plastic three way check valve having broke. I ordered a new one of those already. Otherwise the previous owner says with that fixed and the brakes bled out real well they should work no problem...so hoping to get that done later this week.
With any luck the brakes will be a quick fix and I can go register it with AG plates and get to using it. Planning to just give it a good pressure wash and put a wrench to whatever nuts I see...just make sure everythings tight, particularly the steering components. After that I'll do a general tune up, oil change, etc...but otherwise I plan to just get it to work bringing in some gravel for my driveway.
Anything else in particular you guys would check on it? Pictures to come...
