With cooler temps coming and having a long list of things to do to "Big Red" I thought I would do the Glow Plug LED Mod. this week.
Once getting the parts on hand, this mod took me 3 hours start to finish including a break for dinner and putting all the tools away.
This one was pretty easy to do. Hardest part was drilling the hole for the wire to pass thru the firewall (finding a spot where the drill would fit) and choosing a route for the wire to get to the Glow Plug Relay.
I ended up mounting the LED on the small dash flat just under the key switch.
Having a couple of setting overnight starts, the glow plugs stay on much longer than I thought! And it really hasent been very cold at all!
Now the the wife and I can tell for certain when its time to fire the beast.
Pictures attached because we all like pictures!
In the dash just below the key switch. Choose to put the fuse inside the cab behind fuse panel.
Hardest part of the job was drilling the hole for this pass thru plug. I hope to use this also when I put a set of gauges in later
Firewall location.
GPR connection.
Thanks to those who posted this in the past!
I like it!
That's sweet! How much of a difference is the LED light from the wait to start light on the dash? Don't they cycle for like 120 seconds or something?
Wait to start is completely unrelated to the actual time the GP's are on. The LED he installed is hooked directly to the GPR and tells him for 100% when the GP's are on or off.
This is the link I referenced when purchasing the parts for when I go about with this mod.
I havent put a watch on it but, this morning from sitting over night, outside air temp ~ 45f. The light stayed on maybe 20 seconds after the fuel pump shut off.I have been waiting to start after hearing the fuel pump shut off. I guess I have been jumping the gun all this time. Now I KNOW when they shut down.

compare the led to the seatbelt light..theyre within nano seconds
so if somebody is thinking about doing this they can just reference the seat belt light instead?
im not sayn that its a substitute, im just mentioning to compare the 2. But, if 1 dont have the led, until then they can go off the seatbelt light. Ofcourse, if truck was just ran for awhile, then just flip the key over..
Is there an Amazon part number for the LED and mount?
I used something like this but in amber, it’s over kill but you won’t miss the light, if someone else borrows the truck they’ll see it and well there was already a hole in the trim, at 7oclock of the steering wheel that I wanted filled.
What.... and have to wait for the "wait to start" light goes out before you start the engine? BRILLIANT!!!
I wish I had thought of this pirate4x4 camo.
To be honest, wiring is not my strong suit, I would be nervous about cutting and rerouting stuff from the PCM.
It took me a while to actually find the Black/Pink on the page you provided so maybe, for me, running a different circuit for the light is safer.
But I'm learning

Reason: Readability
What does the (RD/Ye) red and yellow wire go onto after the WTS light? I know it says central junction box, but I would want to be sure that sending the GPR on signal to the WTS light and then onto the central junction box would not be a problem, or the opposite of the WTS going off sooner than the GPR and then having an open signal sent to the central junction box.
Looking at the diagram again, it appears the RD/Ye might be the hot wire with the fuse on it, then after the WTS the BK/PK wire might be the ground coming from the PCM harness?
