2014 F250 6.2 key programing

to make a long story short, i had to have the fusebox and circuit boards associated with it replaced.
not thinking i only left one key with the truck. now a month later i went to start the truck with my second key and realized it no longer works. is this something i can program myself, or am i going to have to take it to the dealer and pay them to program my second key?

You have a few options but only one is "cheap".

See if some place that does the "computer keys", ie, hardware, Wal Mart, etc, can duplicate the current working key. Some places can copy the chip interface into a new key.

Go to Ford service and have them reprogram the two keys.

Go to a locksmith and have them reprogram the two keys

Buy an OBDII interface and use FORScan on a laptop to reprogram your keys. FORScan is free. Depending on your selection of OBDII interface, from approx $15 to over $100. You can use USB or Bluetooth or WIFI interface. I prefer the USB interface with the high speed - medium speed bus switch.

Once you have two keys Then you can program a third to prevent this problem in the future.

I have never used the PATS (key programming) on FORScan but have read on the forums some have.

forscan will only do PATS on some lincoln cars according to the thread i read on the forscan forums.

i have it and just spent the past hour trying to get it to work. then i noticed a single thread on the forscan forum where they said it was not an option they were going to push being available for all vehicles.

It's worked on all of my PATS-equipped Fords including my '15 Explorer XLT.. Don't own any Lincolns.

that is good to hear. how did you do it??

i have the extended license loaded already, but can not figure it out.

as a matter of fact, i can not figure anything out in forscan, and the forum is a joke.

ask the service writer at the dealer you had the work done.....

I know 2 months ago.. I had to purchase a second key.. ( lost it )...
and they told me if I find the lost key.. come back and they will reprogram the lost key for free....

just an FYI.... ASK.

i did. the dealer wants $75 to program the key and they can not do it for three weeks at least because the guy that does it is out on medical leave. .

the shop that did the repair said they are going to call the person that programed the computer and get back to me.
i was just wondering if there was a way to do it myself cause for now i only have one key that will start the truck.

There is a way to get into programming mode even if you don't have IDS or forscan.

1. First you need to open the door and put the vehicle key in the ignition.

2. Next you need to turn the key clockwise from the “off” position to the “on” position. You need to do this 8 times consecutively, ending with the key in the “on” position within 10 seconds of first turning it on. If you are successful at this, the vehicle will go into programming mode which will be signaled by your locks going through a lock/unlock cycle.

3. Once your vehicle is in programming mode, you then need to press any button on your key fob. You must do this within 20 seconds of entering programming mode, or your vehicle will exit programming mode and you will have to start the process all over again.

4. If you have any other key fobs that work for this vehicle, they also need to be reprogrammed or they won’t work any longer.

5. Once this is done, turn the key back to the “off” position and test every key fob that you reprogrammed to see if it is working properly.

This only programs the fob into the system for convenience features, it does not program a key into the PATS system. That operation, unless you have two discrete PATS-programmed keys, must be done with either IDS or Forscan.

It's been over a year since I last used Forscan to program my just-acquired '15 Explorer. I simply don't remember the specifics in Forscan. Sorry.

IDS is Ford's integrated diagnostic system computer software that runs on a laptop and using the VCM2 to communicate with the vehicle.

oh, ok.

well, i got it done.
the guy that put the new fusebox/computer board in called and said come on up and he would take care of it.

took him all of 2 minutes to do it with a snapon hand held computer type thing that he said cost $4,500.
i told him i was trying to use forscan to do it but could not figure it out.
he said oh, i can show you how to use forscan. he then showed me how to do it with forscan using an uncut blank. only difference is it takes about 15 minutes to do it with forscan instead of the 2 minutes with the snap on computer.
once you know what buttons to click on, it is fairly simple.
so now i have 3 working keys once i cut the blank he gave me.

according to the owner's manual you can have up to 8 keys total.....with a max of 4 of them being the integrated key fob for remote start.

If you could get someone to turn on unlimited keys, you can then have more than 8 keys...why you say?.....if you are prone to losing keys, you might surpass the 8 key/4 key fob limit. Odds are slim, but can happen.

I probably has 7 keys programmed for mine at this time....2 remote start key fobs (that I do not use), 2 folding keys with the old door entry guts inside it, 2 or 3 or 4 previously programmed stand 80 bit keys which I keep one inside the truck.
