My 2.9L through a rod bearing and now I'm considering a 302 as a replacement. My questions are, will the 302 match up with the C5 transmission? Concerning the heater box hitting the right bank, Moving the engine forward, how far and will that drag the transmission withit causing work to be done on the tranny mounts? Thanks
Is the C5 known to be heavy duty compared to the C4? C4's are light duty dual band. And the bell housing on the C4 is one piece. Meaning the entire transmission is one piece. Isn't it?
The C5 is the same tranny as a C4. The C4 was used behind 302's from the factory. The C5/C4 both have removable bellhousings. Get a V8 C4 bellhousing, torque convertor, and a C4 valve body, and you're in bussiness.
86 with a C5? Was that a swap? I have never heard of one being available in the 86 model year. I thougnt the only automatic available in 86 was the A4LD.
It's an 86 4X4 with automatic. I am assuming that it's a C5. Although it looks nothing like a C4 and seems to be much heavier duty with the large filter pan.
Well thanks for clearing that up. There are two D for drive indicators on the floor shifter. One D is in a circle. Now back to my orginal question, can the A4LD adapt to a 302?
That figures. Thanks for the answers. Looks like I'll have to build a 302 with transmission. Maybe a C6. I have to get the measurements together first.
I managed to get a look at the tarnsission today. The engine is out. There's a 4 bolt torque converter and the housing is not 1 piece. You can clearly see where the bellhousing bolts on to the transmission. As C6 and C4 0r C5 go I didn't see the govenor plate on the left side. So now I don't know what I have. The door sticker says the transmission is type T. My books do not offer letter translations so does anyone know what the T should be? For 86?
