460 rebuild/ replace
Its been a wile since I posted but I have always found the information and members on here helpful. I have a 1996 F-250 powered by a 460. It has 250k on the clock so I would like to swap it out for a fresh motor. I was wondering what the most cost efficient way of doing it ,long block, short block with the old heads machined or a jasper drop in. I would also not like to do a complete engine build (from bare block to complete engine)
Thank you all in advance

Do some reading over on the forum I linked to. Engine science has come a long way since these engines were new. Building one from scratch using newer tech makes a huge difference. The two options that make sense to me are the whole build or buy a used engine. You can buy a crate engine with modern tech, instead of building one, but not stock. Rebuilding a stock engine makes absolutely no sense.
Understand dynamic compression ratio and quench, at the very least, before you make up your mind.

You could even dyno it- that's standard practice for high- performance engines...
At 250k, it very well may be worn out, but $300 worth of testing would prove it.
