Hi everyone, my first post, i just purchased a 1973 F250 4x4 with a fiberglass utility body on it, it is a retired firetruck/rescue squad. The mileage states 34,000 which may not be true, however that low mileage is not uncommon on a old volunteer fire department truck. It has sat around for several years. My question is did ford make F250 with dual rear wheels, it has them and i need to replace one of the hubs.i can not find one in the market place and the only ones which or just a few i can in the junk yards are on 350s. Well the 350 hub fit. The axle is a dana 60 4:10 according to the BOM number.

You verified the axle BOM? Have pictures of the hub? You should just have a standard D60. The highboy already has a narrow rear axle and are easily adapted to DRW.
Possibly could be a rear axle swap as well, but done after the factory being that it has an aftermarket bed. A dual wheel 14-bolt axle from a Chevrolet of the same era is a direct bolt in for these trucks. And with the narrow frame, you can likely fit any dual wheel axle on the market.
Some pics of the axle could easily determine what you are working with. Could also be a Dana 70 swapped in for they were direct bolt in as well.
But if it's the original Dana 60 with wheel adapters it would be extremely dangerous for Ford Dana 60 rears up til 1977.5 only had 1 lock ring on the bearings.
the truck was sold as a cab and chassis in Charlotte NC and sent to the body company to have the body added. I have included the drum hub and BOM numbers pic
Yes that's a 4.10 D60. However the extended wheel studs are not stock. Pretty risky running duals with a single lock nut. Good news is those hubs are easy to get from another D60. The D70 hubs will not fit from a F350.
how can i tell the difference between the 60 and 70 hubs without crawling underneath and getting the BOM numbers. I found a a old 70 model flatbed f100 with dual rear wheels (obviously somebody added this axle) full float axle but it is in a cow pasture with tall grass and trees around. Getting the wheels and hubs off want be a issue but getting the BOM numbers will be. Can i tell by looking at the hub

Dana 70 hubs of this area have axles retained by nuts instead of bolts. There is studs in the hub and cone washers in the axle flange. The D60 uses just bolts and washers.
Not sure what is wrong with your hub, If race is loose, you can take hub and new race to a machine shop and they can repair. They will weld it up and turn it back to p[roper dimension, they use the new race to measure. I have done this several times. Nice truck.
When i bought the truck the left rear wheel was making a horrible noise, i removed the drum to reveal the bearings were bad. I bought new bearings and the new outer bearings race was sloopy loose. Then i noticed four of the eight tapped bolt holes that the axle flange bolts into were cracked the entire lenght of the bolt hole. Think i could fix this issue ?

I would think so. The machine shop could weld the crack and then retap the threads. Just have to check with the machine shop. When you put the axle bolts in make sure all the rtv is out of the holes and they are clean.
