Hello All... I'm new to the forum but not new to Ford. Been a life long Ford Guy all my life and even have owned a few trucks. My reason for being here is to determine the reliability and popularity of the 6.2 vs the 6.7 engine. I'm in the market for a (new to me), F250/F350 and I'm really stuck at the direction I need to go. I want the truck for a number of reasons, first, Stylin'... damn, they look good. Second, everyone needs a truck for hauling everything. Third, towing, I have a tractor & trailer and eventually I'll need to move it somewhere. Either helping a family & friends or, knock on wood, major service or repairs. Now based on the few things I have read I should be looking at a 2015 -2016 model, hence the 6.2 vs 6.7 title. But I've heard good things about the twin turbo V6 so that may be something to consider as well. So enough rambling from me. In advance I'd like to thank you for your feed back, one way or the other, and I look forward to hearing from y'all.
Everyone has their particular reasons for engine choice.
Personally, I recently had issues with my '11 Ecoboost @ 72k miles requiring new turbos, exhaust manifolds and a vacuum pump to the tune of $6,500 (Thank God for extended warranties). Ford could not determine why the failed turbos built too much pressure, causing the manifolds to warp and leak, nor could they tell me if the failure caused other damage to the engine that would rear its head in the future. Per the service writer, "it was a doozy of a problem". This problem created two things for me: 1. I honestly lost trust in the turbo engines. In theory, they are awesome for power...in the repair bay, they are expensive to repair! And, 2. The issue helped me realize that upgrading to a Super Duty would handle our travel trailer (7,500lbs loaded) better than a maxed out F150.
So, the break and repair did give me a chance to reanalyze my towing needs.
1. We bought our 2nd travel trailer first and won't be upgrading for 10+ years. The trailer scales out at 7500lbs and that's the biggest towing requirement I have.
2. I have a company car and the truck sits at home. Annually, my personal vehicle acquires less than 8,000 miles.
3. MPG was not so much of a factor as a majority of that 8,000 miles are towing.
I was set on getting a reliable engine in a truck. Talking to a couple Ford techs and doing a ton of research on this forum and others, I determined that the 6.2 would fit my towing needs, be cost effective and extremely reliable. With that, my research led me to model year. The 6.2L has been in production since 2010 and proven to be reliable. I looked at some 2017 and 2018 trucks and while they were very nice, the 6.2 F250's came with a engine/model specific transmission (6R100) that was relatively new in the Super Duty. The 2016 and older 6.2L were matched with the standard 6R140 transmission that was put behind the 6.7L as well. I also was not a huge fan of the aluminum body and my preference for appearance was for the 3rd generation.
My conclusion was that I was after a 2014-2016 with a 6.2l. I was able to locate the truck in my signature and have been extremely happy with it.

3 different animals...
6.2L gas, 6.7L diesel, Twin Turbo V6 gas.
for towing... lots of rpm's, low end torque, really HIGH rpm's.. all the time...
evaluate your needs, then your wants.. ( both different )

then the one should be obvious
This is totally true!
The gas vs. diesel debate will have valid arguments from both sides. And, honestly, both engines have their strengths and weaknesses.
Do educate yourself on over-square (example: 6.2) and under-square (example: 6.7) engines in general. This will give you a better understanding of when and what power comes out of the engines at any RPM...and the facts will likely negate some of the arguing points for both engines.

Good point.. I think for my needs i will be keep it between the 6.2 & 6.7. These two will have more differences between them but have the same number of cylinders.
I ran a diesel for years (7.3L) It was a great truck. I now have a new 6.2L. It seems to have the same amount of power or even more than the old 7.3L did. I have driven a 6.7L, and compared the 6.2L, it is the more powerful engine. Built for towing, and heavy work. On that note for what you are going to be doing. I would recommend the 6.2L. A HD truck without all the issues/maintenance of a diesel. The 6.2L has proven itself to be one of the most reliable modern age engines that Ford has built. I love mine, and will more than likely never go back to diesel.
I agree with DieselBeast01. I think for your needs a gas engine makes more sense. Have you priced what it costs just for an oil change on a diesel? I used Rotela full synthetic and motorcraft filters on my 6.0 and doing it myself I was well over $100. Not to mention the significantly higher purchase price of the diesel. If you were pulling a 5th wheel often or hauled equipment for work etc. a diesel would make sense, but for a truck that may occasionally pull something... I vote gas.

Seems to be a valid argument. At my age economics plays a big part of this as well. Thanks.
