I understand the wires for the upfitter switches are under the dash, near the steering column. If I want to use them to control something on the outside of the truck... fog lights, bed lights........ is there also wire access in the engine compartment? or do I have to drill a hole in something to get wires outside?

Reason: added what truck i have
In the harness that passes through the firewall...under the hood beneath the master cylinder where the harness come through the firewall.......then inside on the left side of the steering column where the harness passes through the fire wall...
If you don't want to go through the firewall, it's easier to come up through the floorboard drain holes and head directly to the upfitter wires. Then you don't have to mess around with those short wires.
