Angry 2003 Expy Mirror Problem

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition that has the beloved side-view mirror problem. I just disabled the reverse mirror adjust for now, but every time I unlock the vehicle or change the driver preset the mirrors get messed up because the motor gears are wearing and making the clicking noise. This forces me to re-adjust the mirrors with the switch when I get in the car every time because I am not the only driver. And to make things worse, the passenger side mirror stopped moving to the right altogether.

I know that I need to replace the module that controls the mirrors, but I have not been able to find what it is that I actually need to replace when looking around these forums. It would be very helpful if someone could tell me what specifically needs to be replaced and if it solves the problem or just postpones it breaking again? Do I need to go to a Ford dealer to do this, or can I swap it on my own? Because I don't know if it needs to be programmed or not. I know that after I replace the mirror control module I should replace the motors in the mirrors and that I can definitely do at home.

Thanks for your help. I have seen this issue plenty online but have failed to find exactly what I need to do to fix it.

Before spending big dollars on a replacement Driver Seat Module I would suggest you replace the power mirror motor assemblies. Both of the power mirrors on my new to me 2006 Navigator would exhibit similar mis-positioning issues when selecting between the two presets. The passenger side also had a jitter when driving down the road. I replaced the motor/positioners in each earlier this year. No more jitter or misalignment issues.

Thanks. I'll try that first. Did all of your mis-positioning issues go away? Even when you unlock the car or set your seat preset?

Yes. All I did was install the newer motor assemblies then cycled them manually to both ends of their movements up/down and side to side. Then I positioned the mirrors to the desired position and hit the Memory set button for #1 and #2. Now I can switch between them with no more mirror misalignment problems.

The mirrors on my 2006 Navigator do nothing when I unlock the vehicle.

By manually cycling do you mean just pushing them up and down by hand? What is the benefit to doing that?

Manually as in using the mirror positioning switches inside the vehicle. Implies I did not use the preset feature.
