84 f150 won’t go into gear when running

I backed out of my driveway in my 84 f150 with the in-line 6 and 4 speed granny transmission and when I went to put it in 2nd it would not go in and when I tried to put it in first it just grinded badly. I checked the clutch master cylinder fluid level and it’s pretty low. Would the low fluid cause it to not go into gear, or did the clutch master cylinder go bad? Or could it be another problem? Thanks, Colby

Well the brake fluid in the clutch master cylinder doesn't disappear for no reason. You obviously have a leak and its probably at the slave cylinder.

Of course it will not shift with "pretty low" fluid, If there is an air bubble in the line now, The air compresses, and the slave does not move far enough.
The fluid, by design, is non-compressible, so a full stroke on the clutch pedal = a full throw in the slave. Air in the line can cut the throw by 3/4 of the clutch pedal stroke.
Could be other things but fill and blead the line.
