1999 Ranger 3.0L FlexFuel 2WD 5spd. The other day I cranked up and pulled out of the parking lot at my apartment complex. Bout the time I got on the road, the clutch started feeling real funny, so I pulled off to the side. The clutch pedal depresses way to easy and I can't feel the clutch doing anything. It wouldn't let me put the shifter into any gear, a few minutes later it went in gear and i let off the clutch and as soon as i took any pressure off it was engaging real quick and the truck would lurch forward. A few minutes later it started working normally again so I pulled back into the parking lot and parked it. Now it does the same as earlier and won't go into any gear. Fluid was low when I checked it, filled up and no change. Also, bled the clutch system and now there is even less pressure on the pedal. Also, the fluid level in the master cylinder didn't even budge. Sorry if this post is a little confusing, combined a few posts from another forum. Thanks in advance for any help and sorry for the long post. I'm new to the site and heard it was a great place to get help.
Did you notice any clutch fluid leaks from the slave cylinder?
Check the clutch pedal mounting for worn bushings or broken mountings.
However from your description my guess would be a defective master cylinder but only assuming no fluid leaks from slave cylinder.
after further inspection, i don't see any fluid build up where i think it would from the slave, but looks to be a little bit of a leak from the master cylinder. sound like a bad MC?

my thoughts as well. i was told on another forum to disconnect the slave and press the clutch and it should be rock solid, so i'll try that at some point during the day
got a new master and put it in last night. when i went to bleed it i noticed a lot of fluid dripping down on my head. so i got up and put my hand on the new master since i couldnt see down there good and got my buddy to press the clutch. fluid is comin out like crazy. im not sure what the issue is. maybe the hydraulic line clamp is a POS? i need to figure somethin out fast, would like to have the truck back on the road by tonight or in the morning. thanks
scratch that... found the issue, little o-ring that goes on the hydraulic line popped off, one of those things that makes you feel like a real idiot after the fact. but it's all good, it lives to see another day. thanks for the help!
