I have a 93 4.9 with a t18 4 speed with 285k. I've been having intermittent check engine light (generally under hard acceleration), rough idle at cold start and lingering gas smell for a while. I finally got a day off and decided to actually do something about it. Symptoms pointed to bad egr. So did the codes: with a KOEO I got a 332, a 327, a181. All continuous memory.I went through vacuum lines, replaced the questionable ones, pulled the sensor off the egr, cleaned the contacts and seafoamed through the intake. Viola, no check light and the cold start rough idle disappeared. Now I got a bad hesitation in the low end of each gear. Went back and redid the KOEO test, passed with no codes. Ran the KOER test got 172, o2sensor lean, and 411, cannot control low rpm.
Can the hesitation be linked to the o2 sensor? Should I continue the process with cleaning the egr? How this is the metal on the tube that runs to the egr. The large nut connecting it to the egr itself is pretty seized and I'm concerned about twisting that pipe right apart.
Ok. I got the egr off and cleaned out. Cleaned out the port in the intake. Wasn't too bad. Found and fixed a vacuum leak to the air pup bypass solenoid. Now the truck throws no codes at all. Passes KOEO and KOER. Still gutless as all hell going up hills had a lot more low end power when I was having all tho previous codes and the check light. Not sure what to try next
