Hello Guys,
I have to pull a heavy gooseneck Cargo Trailer about 700 mls from FL to Knoxville, TN. trailer is around 12000lbs.
What kind of Water temperature can I expect to see and what recommendations do you guys might have? I know, I drive slow (about 65)
Truck has a 6-pos switch with the tow mode., straight through exhaust, no other mods. 3.55 rears and Auto on single rear wheel.
when I towed the camper and equipment at about 12k two summers ago, I only looked at the temp gauge once in a while and it held steady even on big hills
I worried about EGTs more and they never got out of control running with out a chip.
I compromised my cooling system with a 32 row 6.0 trans cooler. My trans stays cool but I'm experiencing 'heat soak' and the cooling system is running hotter. Just a compromise.
With all the heavy towing I do, I have NEVER had a problem with water temps. EGTs, yes. Oil temps, you bet. Watch both of those and you'll be good. Water temps shouldn't be an issue, but if you run too hot of a thermostat, it can affect your oil temps in a negative way. Most of us that tow a bunch run a 180* thermo to keep the EOTs cool.
