starter current draw.
02 7.3 diesel. new starter, about 1 year old, maybe 15 starts on truck since starter installed.
3 weeks ago went to prep truck for snow season, and would not start pulled starter and positive battery lug was broke on solenoid.
got a new switch put on and truck started once. then would only "click".from starter area. today i finally have decent weather to get under truck and pull starter.
bench test it and works but sounds funny.
put ammeter on main line and drawing 60 amps then drops to 100 amps
put amp meter on trigger wire to switch and see 60-75 amps initial then drops to 25 amps.
does this sound like high current draw, or does it sound about rite?
this is the first time in over 45 years i ever had a bad electrical item come out of there.
but in their defense, this was a starter they bought from someone else, not one they built.
got starter version 4 into the 02 diesel plow truck and it started rite up. the switch(some call it a solenoid) was defective again. put one made in mexico on it this time instead of china junk.
dropped truck and turned the key............................................... ........ started rite up. and blew a brake line when i went to put it in gear.
