Starter Current Draw

Does anyone know about how many amps a starter will draw at about 55 degrees F?? I got mine tested while it was in the truck and the tester said it was drawing 680A. This sounds like a lot to me, but it is a diesel, and I'm having problems that are making the starter lag a little. Not sure if it is the starter itself or something else shorting out and stealing all the current.

It seems like I remember 300-400 amps when the truck is warm. Not sure though. That was a 3-4 years ago when I had starter trouble.

Spec is 170A no load
230-630A loaded

the hi end should be momentary when it first cranks then drop or fluctuate pretty quickly

Thanks. I replaced the starter and it fires right up effortlessly now. Thanks for the help.
