Would a 93 Diesel have a TPS sensor? My dads diesel has been acting up and he had it scanned on a computer. He mentioned something about a bad TPS sensor. Where exactly is it located and how do you replace it. My ImpalaSS has a TPS sensor on it, but if you have to replace it, you have to check for appropriate voltages that it puts out. Does it work the same way on a Diesel?
His symtoms are:
1. At around 35 - 40MPH the transmission would have a problem finding the correct gear to shift to. It would shift up then down often. This wouldn't happen all the time though.
2. At times, going around 65 - 70MPH, the truck would seem like it would go into neutral. Backing off the pedal and getting back into it would re-engage it. When going over 70, this didn't happen very frequently.
3. Every once in a while, his truck would shift hard. Almost if he put a shift kit in it.
It almost sounds like transmission problems as they are all related, but if it were a trans problem, then this would be happening all the time IMO. BTW, he installed a new vacumm pump and now the problems aren't as frequent as they used to be.
you don't really have a tps sensor like your thinking. the sensor that your thinking of is electronically controlled and your dad's might be but the majority are vacuum controlled and is located on the injection jump directly on the other side of the throttle shaft. not this switch will go back and make the transmission freak out. couple of ? has the injection pump been replaced recently. do your brakes feel good or funny if so checked vacuum pump output before messing with the switch17-21hg best bet take to a good trans shop that knows diesels with automatics good luck might be as simple as a adjustment
