I had a new king pin installed, and now the truck bump-steers. If one front wheel goes over a bump, but the other does not, the truck will steer itself to the side the bump was on. Correcting causes the truck to dip the front on that side and take off in the other direction, which results in this back and forth wobble that can be thrilling in close quarters. I corrected the wrong front shock mount, so now both shock's travels match, and I just put on brand new front shocks. These changes have helped, but the issue is still there. The shop that changed the king pin aligned the front end, but obviously I'm suspicious. Anyone else run into this?
Lift the front tires off the ground, grab the tire at 12:00 o'clock and 6:00 o'clock and rock the tire inwards and outwards.
If the tire/wheel is moving (slop/give), it may be highly probable the bushings were reamed too large for the kingpins (if bronze bushings were installed).
I would like to know why only 1 side was done?
They both had the same amount of wear.
Are you sure the side not done is not frozen?
You would need to disconnect the tie rod and get the wheel off the ground and try turning it left & right, should move easily.
What shape are the rubber bushings in?
Bad bushingscan cause what you have too.
You can also check toe with a helper and tape measure, 1/16th" to an 1/8th" toe in is what you want.
