I was considering trading in my 99 Exp Sport (75K miles) for a 2002 4 door XLT V8- The price seems good at $17,500 with 44K miles- was priced at 19,500 but was marked down at my local dealership because its been on the lot for more the 30 days- now the dealer stated that the mileage was high for the year and that was the deternt for most people who looked at it- The mileage does not bother me as I plan to keep it for the long term and I average less then 10K a year myself. It is Ford Certified and has the warranty that will go for 75K miles- Can anyone give me any good or bad points on the 02 or maybe some personal experience and things I should look for before I sign the deal-
Sounds to me like you found a good deal, especially for a V8.
A good point to the '02 over the older models is the ride. You've probably noticed that it rides a lot better than your '99 Sport. A bad point will be the fuel mileage. The V8 (and even the V6) really like to drink gasoline. I don't take my XLS out of town and I average around 15 mpg consistently. Not good, but I didn't buy it for the fuel economy.
I'm not really sure of any specifics that you need to check before you seal the deal. I guess just the usual stuff.
The only thing that would concern me is why nobody else is interested in it. Do they know something that you don't, or are they just put off by the 44k miles?
My salesman (that I have bought my last 2 vehicles from, an 01 Mustang and 99 Sport) told me that it was almost sold a couple of times but the mileage killed the deal- stated that the customer opted for a lower end model with less mileage for more money- I trust him as he has never tried to stear me in the wrong direction and flat out told me last time I was in that I should hold on to my 99 for a while longer so I was not so "upside down"- so I guess the time is right-
